I was in the same boat a couple years ago. Had mind set on an Echo CS590, then a Stihl MS440 popped on craigslist for $400. Picked that up and it rocks. It has a 28" bar, I thought it was going to be too long and bulky, but it is great. I was running a skip chain.

Keep your eye open, tradin post here, or craigslist. some deals will come up, just have to be ready and on top of them.

Wait a minute. By 25" do you mean the length of the whole saw, or just the blade? I've never personally seen a 25" blade. My wood shark is about 25" in total length, and it's a badass

Stihl doesnt make a 25" bar?

Yes they do, it's an 84DL bar which is really more like 24". All the other manufactures consider that bar a 24".

Yeah that 046 is a dang nice looking saw. Not a bad price for a really clean saw. Not sure why the 046 and the 460's go for about $100+ more than the 044/440's.

Yeah, I'd be all over that 046 if you have $500 to spend on a saw. Good price for a clean one in good running condition.
