Anyone know why there are two different cylinder assemblies offered for these saws? Ran across one of these today, looks pretty rough and stuck. Guess if you were going to buy a cylinder though, one from a 288 would be a better choice. Is that the largest that will fit? Copied and pasted from Partstree:

Old 288 cyl. no decomp. newer cyl's have decomp valve.

Yep, I checked the oldest 288 number and the newest 288 number. Those are different but the oldest number now crosses to 544223102 which services both the oldest and the newest, so looks like if you order this now, you will be needing a compression release. Gonna look at that old saw again. If most of it's there, I'm bringing it home.
 
KS made the first 288 cylinders and they were non decompression valve, then Mahle made some for a while with a decompression valve, the last that were made are KS again with a decompression valve, this includes the Brazil saws made up until last year.
