346xp cylinder cover clips

Is there a trick to removing these clips? I want to take one from a 575 to use on the 346 but I'm starting to think when there in, there in until it breaks. Is new the only way to replace these?

I just had to buy a new one, the old one broke when I tried to get it out for cleaning. $10 plus

Theoretically, they can be removed. They just snap in. I've removed them before.

I've swapped em out too. It is a pain though.

Looks like I should just buy a new one but the challenge is too tempting. I'll probably end up having to buy two or three new ones just to learn how to get one out.

Kinda looks like if I can pinch the clip closed without it breaking, it should slide out.

Nice and slow from inside to out. Little bit to much force and it will crack.

The one I broke was close to the Cat muffler and it was brittle

Mines an 06 that hasn't run in about 7yrs so I'm sure it's brittle too. Just decided to pull it out of the back room last week for a build. Toasted top end and split impulse but it's in pretty good shape other than that. New seals, impulse, and 345 piston and she'll be back in action (and clip).

If it's not next to a Cat muffler, I doubt it's too brittle but tricky, yes.

SUCCESS!! I was able to get a 90° pick under the clip and get it back out, I did break one in the process though.
