372xp vs. MS 440 magnum

The 440 is a smaller saw. Not by much but still smaller. The 372 is lighter and will outcut the 440 any day. I love Stihl but the 372 is one if not THE best ever made for power to weight ratio and reliablity.
Boston BUll, Have you Ran both these saws? I have and can say with certainty that the husky is heavier. If I remember right almost a pound when weighed ready to go minus the bar.
As for smaller. Are you refering to the displacement or the physical size? The are both about the same physical size. As for the displacement the 440 is 70.7cc while the 372 is 71cc. Hardly anything worth even talking about.

I have ran them both and feel the 372 is lighter. I also think the 372 cuts faster. You cant dog the 372 in as much as the 440 but it still cuts faster.
So .3 cc isnt anything worth talking about? What if it outcuts a 440 in a race by .3 seconds is that not worth it either and its justa tie?

I also think the 372 is a little more streamlined looking while the 440 is like all stihls blocky.

put them both on the scale and you will find that the 372 is indeed heavier.

The two saws mentioned are so close in performance it is not worth talking about. That said I have put countless hours on both saws. I have three 044's and one 372. The 372 has a better filtration system, I like the vibration dampners on the 372 better and I like the sound of the muffler. But, they are both tried and true workhorses. I personally never have run either saw with a bar larger than 20 inches.

I have both and the 372 is faster in a cut and the 440 is lighter on a scale as far as one being better I would say it your choice at that point both saws are great
I have 2 044's and will soon have 3 372's....the 044 is noticably lighter, as ben says...shame that Husky fibs in the way they weigh saws... Well, both my 044's have seen better days, one is apart, and rebuildbable, the other needs work and is only used as a pwrhead for a capstan winch.
anyhow, I have a Walkerized 372, and a just built ehp 372, both are screamers. But recently I got a 440 for Ekka, had it Power tuned by Madsen's, who do a lot for $90 but not as much as Ed. I added the dual port front cover, then opened both ports by another 30% to get it breathing the way it should. It was darned close to as fast as the two 372's, and not even broken in. Nothing against Ed, as his work is awesome, but that 440 blew me away how good it was. Ekka is gonna sheet his britches, as he's never run a modded saw!! So, at least one of my old 044's is slated for full mods, as one was stock the other was madsens tuned, with stock mufflers.

(Dolmar 7300 and 7900, both 6.4).
Husky, Jred and to a lesser degree Dolmar are pretty optimistic regarding the stated/advertised weight of their saws. Stihl are usually closer to the truth, at least on the pro models.
