385 XP compression?

I just got a call from a fellow wanting to sell a 385XP. I had him run a compression test and it shows 125 pounds. HOWEVER, this looks to be a standard automotive gauge without a Shrader valve that only goes to 160 pounds. What compression should a healthy 385 have?

Mine has 165#, too much difference in gauges and the person doing the test to say for sure it has low compression. Steve

What model year? They redesigned the PTO side crank bearing and seal in 2005. BTW, you can get a new OEM 390 topend for $200, if it needs it and the price is right.

was it the bearing and seal or the pto side crankcase?

My 390XP blows anywhere from 200-215psi, depending on conditions. :hmm3grin2orange:

The new bearing and seal will go in the old case. I just did one myself.

Thanks for the responses. I think that the reading on the gauge is low (but perhaps I can use that to my advantage). I won't be able to look at the saw for another week, but it may be worth the trip to check out.
