I do not own a 372xp (but a couple of the earliest 576xp) -
one can note that a 390xp weighs 1 kg more than a 372xp,
but offers 1.2 more hp - that's a pretty big hp per kg gain.
Although, admittely, thinking of it, a 390xp probably feels
a little "soft in the chassie" ... .

372's ported "right" wake up like you wouldn't believe! I'll use one any day over a bigger saw when I can.

Howdy:

I cant comment on the 390xp but I do use a 395xp and although it is a large saw it doesn't feel that bad once you are actually cutting, its the carrying it around between cutting part that gets me, I just stop and set it on the ground.

The 395 is very smooth running, which is why I really like it.

I would just get a 395 before the stop making them. You will love it.

395 has a more robust oiler, is a total badass, but don't get one unless you really need one. 385/390/288 are gonna be almost as strong and feel much better doing it

If he gets the 390xp in the PNW it will come with a high output oiler, full wrap, larger discharge clutch cover, and usually a 28-32" bar. For the wood in the PNW, a 390 will easily pull a 32" bar through most of it.
