I may have a different cut, but the principle of the air is no different.

I currently use the black 80

but a 'high top' air filter (seen on most USA '372XP saw) also seems to me a bit.

Which has the greatest air flow?
and which protects the piston and cylinder the best?

In the automotive field, wire mesh filters (like the black one you posted) flow better but don't filter as well, therefore providing less protection than "felt" filters. The same principles should apply to small engines. :msp_thumbup:

I'm still waiting on my updated filter holder. I wish a high top filter was available... Maybe someone will retro-fit one some day.

There is an improved filter holder, part # 505 127 003. Retail is about $11

How is the filter holder "improved"?

It looks to me like it doesn't seal as well as it could between the filter and holder.:bang:

My new 550XPG was run 8-10 min WOT in 3 year old black walnut that was very dusty for break in caliberation. Here is the a pic of the dust that got through the filter and was removed with Q tips.

The "black 80", but I play it a little safe and use the "yellow 44" mostly.

As always, what you need to use depends on the cutting conditions! :msp_wink:

Sorry to bump this, but how can I tell if I have the latest filter holder? I have a flippy cap saw but otherwise not sure how I could tell. There is quite a bit of sawdust past the filter.

I took the number off the inside of my saw's filter holder (505 15 00) but it doesn't have enough digits and doesn't match any P/N's, so it doesn't tell me.

Also, is the blue holder for the XPG only? The current XP holder I have is black so that could be an easy identifier.

2013 #'s: (I see there is a separate P/N for the XPG)

I believe blue filter holders are for xpg, while black are for xp saws. The main difference, besides color, between the two might be a small recess to accommodate the carb heater.

I notice the latest 2016/2017 IPL has new filter holders again.

That "low top" appears to be the same filter as my 555. The smaller filter area is one of the differences I noticed between the XP and non XP line, even though the 555 is nearly a 562xp.

My 562xpg has the same top cover as a xp model. Must be different suppliers?

My 565xpg has the same top cover as a regular xp model. I wonder if there has been a design change of air filters?
As far as a low top cover the 560xp model seems to have a shorter or lower top cover than the 562xp model.
