Not always. With broken saw you might throw it away and buy new one.
With access to vintage parts and advice, you will spend two weeks grocery money fixing it up, then it will be too nice to get scratched in the woods, then put on the shelf, and you buy the new saw with the grocery money for the two weeks after that.

Yep I did that last time I broke the starter rope from pulling too hard.

It was well munged up, some judicious poking got all kinds of crud out and she lives to cut another day!
