I believe boxelder is a member of the maple family

Both are "Acer", so yes.

Wiki .calls it red maple

Red Maple is a different tree than Box Elder, same family - different tree.

The majority of my cutting happens in the winter. I get most of my wood from line fences separating farm fields can't get to it when the crop is in and too wet in the spring so kinda stuck cutting in the snow. But if it's not too windy and the sun is out I really enjoy cutting.
