I own a MS 260 (around 15 years old) since last summer, saw is still running great, did clean it after uses it as it should. Now I want to do a maintenance on it. I did order few parts to replace (sprocket, chains, bar, air filter (fleece), fuel filter) but I haven't found a complete guide on what to check/clean.

For example, should I disassemble the piston/cylinder to clean it or not?

Is there some seals/gaskets that needs to be replaced once disassembled?

What not to touch?

I'm also no mechanics guru but using Stihl parts diagrams, seems possible, am I right?

I suspect that there's might be some fine parts that got thru air filter, can the engine assembly be cleaned?

Definitely disassemble piston/cylinder and adjust to proper specs..!!
(Just Jokin'..!!)

If everything is working right...I'd leave it be...!!
(if it ain't broke..don't fix it)..I'd check fuel line and go cut wood..!!

Half the fun is taking it apart and puting it back together and having extra parts :)

If its running fine just change both filters and spark plug and get fresh fuel

OH YEAH and a sharp chain

Blow it out with compressed air. I would suggest removing several of the covers too.

Also a new air filter might be in order. Edit it looks like H2H already suggested this.
