Recent threads got me thinking about 064 coils again.

I have an early 064 that takes the unlimited bosch coil flywheel/coil 1122 400 1201/1122 400 1300. Either the 3 hole dogleg coil or the two hole that bolts to the old mount on the early 3 hole cases

When searching, to my surprise I found a newer 064 unlimited coil 1122 400 1311, with the dogleg mount?

So another coil that will work on early 064 w/1201 flywheel?

One other thought. Has anyone taken stihl coils and switched the mounts?

Changing out the laminates can be done- I did it years ago when I needed a coil for an older Efco saw- parts for which weren't available in the states.

The 1311 coil doesn't have the same dog leg mounting as the 1122 400 1300 coil and the early 064 cases only have mounts compatible with the 1122 400 1300.

That's what I thought about early 064 case, and the 1311 coil. But Why the dogleg mount on the coil in pic above? It's a 1311 coil., hard to see be marked so: 1122 1311

Also not all early 064 1300 bosch coils were doglegs, some used just the top and middle (odd middle) mounts on early 064 cases, that is 2 mounting holes/no dogleg. A pic of one of those is in the other recent 064 thread.

If you only have 2 of the 3 mounts that match you should be able to bolt it up and set air gap. The only other dogleg coil that I know works on the old 064 case is 1128 400 1309, 046 dogleg.

If I am missing something and 1311 coil were some other mount doglegs I am fishing in the sand. Were 1311 coils doglegs or two bolts or, both?

Thanks for your help. You have given us all a lot of great advice.

Some of the early 064s sold in Canada used the 0000 400 1300 "universal" module, the upper mounting holes of which match the upper mounting holes of the 1311 coil. There were no 1122 400 1300 coils issued with the regular mounts. There's a service bulletin on that.

The 1311 coil you have pictured was issued to replace the rev-limited CDIC coils on 064/066s as the CDIC coils had a high failure rate and Stihl had to warranty many ignition replacements. It was not meant to replace the universal module or the 1122 400 1300 ignition.

Yes, if you have two mounts to match-up then you're good to go. The 1311 coils have the configuration as pictured so that it would fit several styles of cases. The 1311 coils also had a high failure rate.

Thanks for the info. A 046 1309 dogleg coil or an adapter for the universal coil seems the best option for a early 064
