Collecting this from an area that was cut a couple years ago. Not sure what it is, hope it's not poplar. Seems too heavy. Thoughts?

Looks like box elder to me. Not much better than poplar. It'll burn though.
I'm hoping once i get a path cleared through this stuff I can get into some oak and maple.

Bummer. I was holding out hope someone more knowledgeable would ID it as something better. I'm going to have a bunch it looks like (more than I want or need). Hopefully I can find a home for it.
Awesome shoulder wood. I wish I had more in the woodshed last winter since it was so mild, I could have burnt that 75% of the time.
I burn it for shoulder wood as well. Just already have some. we always start the season burning chunks from splitting. Usually have about a half cord of those so there isn't a lot of shoulder season left. One way or another it won't go to waste.
