I had to run around last fall with the big torch burning up ant colonies... there were a few around the perimeter of the house, and you would see the young queens coming out getting ready to fly away. Climbing on the deck, climbing up the exposed concrete on the basement walls...
Took a couple of days of burning them up when I'd get home from work to calm things down.
And some of the wood I've cut into around the property this spring has been full of the big black ants.
