May Pole :)
And nobody better say Hickory!

Hey, I can at least tell THAT one from hickory! :dumb:

Yes, that's silver maple. Not high on the BTU's, but it splits easy, dries quick, burns well, and leaves very little ash. Good stuff for burning in Spring and Fall. Save the good stuff for the cold of the winter.

Yeah silver maple can have a lot of color in it. I always want to mill some to see what the boards will look like. My buddy just bought an Alaskan mill and I just got a MS660 with a 32" bar on it......But, I cut and split around 10-12 cords of silver maple in the last couple years. I am burning it right now as a matter of fact. It will throw some good heat, but not for a terrible long time. Split it when green and it pops nicely.

Boxelder, well, it is for the birds. Had a few trees I cut in firewood also, ehhh, it is wet, takes a while to dry, burns fast, and splits like crap......maybe will take one to try and mill tho....
