Anyone tried a 8 pin 325 on a 357xpg?

Hi
Just got my 357xpg, it´s equipped with a 16" 3/8 full chisel! The chain is VERY dull/damaged, and I only have that one chain fitting it!
But i have a 18" 0,325 bar, and 3 fine chains, so thought of using that one, at least for now!
What do you guys think? should I go for 7 or 8 pin?

I guess a .325x8 will be fine, if the chain is sharp! :D

Yeah, but nothing works with a dull chain :hmm3grin2orange:

Isn´t 325x8 much closer to 3/8x7, than 325x7?

Yep, but I often use 3/8"x8 on my MS361, simply because it works better than 7-pin on that saw - but the 357xp isn't quite as strong, I believe........:msp_biggrin:

Don´t know much about the MS361, and haven´t tried the 357XP yet, so I wouldn´t know! :msp_wink:
How long bar do you use on the 361, with 3/8x8?

Anyway, changing sprockets isn´t that big a deal, so guess I´ll try with the 325x8 setup! :msp_thumbup:
And of course, I´ll always have the 3/8 set-up for it!

Just try every option that you can find, and I usually use a 15" bar with the 3/8"x8, mostly for limbing and bucking. It is a really fun set-up, on that "peppy" saw! :hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

yeah, tried a similar set-up on my 365(with 372 p/c and walbro), in a saw stand, did it just cut fast!

I used to run my 357xpg with a 18" .325 powermatch and an 8pin worked superb even with a 20" so if you like .325 i think a 8pin is the way to go on a 357xp/xpg !!!

That may well be the best option on a saw that basically have the "small 7-spline" clutch drum, as a 3/8"x8 or .325X9 simply isn't an option on that clutch drum! :msp_rolleyes:

I think you like the .325 and 8 pin. If you were keeping the 18" bar buried most of the time the 7 might be better but for all round use the 8 should be the way to go.

At the cost of a rim, I would much rather find out for myself than ask the masses ;) Next post should be a report involving how much you liked it!

Dunno 'bout you Euro Guys,

I have a 120 Super and an 120 si running 18 inch .325 9 pin rim with the NK chain.

Those "stroked " smallblocks seem to pull it good.

my best fun is running a 2100 with a 20" bar, 8 pin.

NK, you mean the 95VP? thought the NK set-up was for max 55 cc ;)
