We just recently had a bad storm here in North Carolina. We got a call about a tree that was on a house. When we got there it was a good sized Black Birch Top that had twisted out of the tree. The Black Birch was approx. three feet through at the base, and had split all the way to the way down. It was an amazing site to see. Wish I had pictures. I'd say the tree in height was 70-75 feet total height and probably had a 15-20 foot spread at the top. I think the failure point was where it had a V fork about 30 feet up with a good sized punkey spot right at the base of the V crotch. There was an oak that was probably 10" accross and the top in it was twisted. It was some interesting work. BB
