Whats up saw junkies
I picked this this big bad ass 088 Easter Sunday locally. It has a few wounds but never been in the wood.
My question is how to break it in( too lazy to search). It has a 42" B/C 404 semi chisel and i would like to put a 32" for break in.
I pulled the plug it's spotless inside, added a little mix and swished er around a little. Compression now is 155 and I read these saws need 10-15 tanks of mix to break in. Should be a monster.

enjoy

Hope you're a Klingon because you had to have given both left and right nuts for that.

Leave the big bar on it for break in, just hope you can find wood big enough. More wood means more load on the saw and that's what you want while breaking it in, just don't let it get hot. Avoid piss revving it if at all possible.

Ever pinch a bar, much less a long bar? You have to run those 088's hard as they are a dog when stock. Loggers and tree companies are not going to baby them with a break in period.

I have a 088 that I got like new and I put a 42" bar on it. It was run it hard against a Dollar 166, which also had a 42" bar. Both had their bars buried in cedar. I learned a bit from that and promptly ported the 088. Now even a strong working Mac 101 will not touch it with a 36" bar and stock raker height.
