Big White oak

A friend that lives just over from me called and said the tree guy will be here early Saturday to take the big oak next to his house down.
He said bring you saw and trailer ,its all yours for the taking if you want it.I was there early.the tree measured almost 33 inches at base and was approx 85 feet tall.
I have some big rounds to deal with but I'm definitely not complaining.

This is load number two of five so far.going after the big stuff tomorrow.Its only about 500 ft from my house to his.I was towing with Polaris ranger and didn't want to load to heavy.

On the ground, I helped neighbor with piling the brush up and we then proceeded cut the tree into rounds.

Its nice when the neighbors are neighborly! My neighbor gave me 2 white oaks and 2 red oaks. he wants them cut so his garden gets more sunlight next spring. Like always, anytime I go over and cut something, he gives it to me, helps me load, split, etc. I always help him clean up the limbs and such. Nice score!

I was looking at the leaves and bark also. Looks like red to me but I wasnt there. Great score though,

Nice score.. always good when it comes that close. I have a neighbor that is having a nice red oak taken out in a few weeks. It is about the same dia. but not near as tall. You never turn down anything that good.

It sort of does in the pic with the whole trunk on the ground look at the pic in the trailer cut up and turn up the brightness on your puter and look and tell me what you think.

Here's a White Oak I opened up a few years back.

They look different 'fresh' cut.

One way to tell if'n it is red, Did it smell like barf?

Many regions and minerals in the soil can alter a trees' appearance.


Hey if I'm wrong it won't be the first time.

Look closely at the end grain. If you see open pores it's red. If the pores are filled, it's white. Should be easy to see on that stump cut.
