The expert method is how I learned to tie a bowline in 1978 and that's how I've tied it ever since. I've taught 5 ground men how to tie it that way as I've found that in the long run its better that they learn it once the right way. .

If you can't tie a bowline behind your back, you can't really tie a bowline. . About the worlds most useful knot.

Heck, in a pinch, if you make the eye big enough it can be used as a Prussic, or a Klemhiest friction hitch

I know, me too, always need to go out and practice to re freshen, have been knotless for so long that I have a hard time remembering so of them. I have a small hank in the office here that I use,try to get to the point where I can tie them all with eyes closed. I said I try.
