If you haven't got the torque to go with the HP/chainspeed it's really easy to bog a saw in hard/dense timber though.

It is of course not totally black/white - but that is mostly about high end torque, not low end torque. Basically, if you need low end torque you are either using a too small saw, or a dull chain - cutting speed will be slow anyway at low rpms.
