I have a stihl 028 av woodboss chain saw the chain spins when idling but the sprocket is free when not running any help appreciated

Sounds like your idle is too high. If I understand your original question, you can freely move the chain with the saw off but the chain spins at idle?

If you can't reduce the idle to the point where the chain won't spin, you may have an air leak. That would be like having the throttle more open than it is. It will lean out the fuel/air ratio and may damage your saw. I'd check your intake boot first and make sure your carb is on snugly. Then try to lower the idle speed.

Could likewise be grasped drum bearing seized to yield shaft, however, it's a brisk and simple fix with no new parts required.
