I agree, that bark doesn't look much like black cherry or wild cherry. However, the bottom of the butt log of older trees does often have mature bark that doesn't look like the rest of the tree. That said, the best way to get the most crotch figure from a tree is to slice it in the same plane as the two branches that parted from the main trunk. You will get crotch figure either way, but I found the best that way. You also tend to get the widest boards doing it that way.
