Hello I am new to tree climbing currently
in the process of purchasing rope to complete
my new climbing kit and would like some help
clarifying climbing rope vs rigging rope.

In effort to understand the main difference
between climbing rope and rigging rope
I would appreciate if someone knowledgeable
on the subject could point out real life
use of rigging ropes and climbing ropes.

Rigging rope example:
lowering cut tree limbs

Climbing rope example:
climber ascending and descending

What rope should be used for the following
rigging or climbing rope?

Friction savers ?
Friction hitch ?
Prusik chords ?
Lanyards ?
Anchoring at tree trunk for srt ?
Anchor points for redirects ?

Thanks in advance for any
light shed on the subject.

As long as the rope is appropriately rated (synthetic and rates for 5400 lbs) you CAN use any 1/2" (there are exceptions...) line.

You want your climbing line to be a low stretch line. Note this is opposite of rock climbing...they want a stretchy line).

You need your rigging line to have some stretch so it absorbs shock.

Lanyard doesn't matter...as long as it is 5400 lb. If you are doing a lot of chainsaw work, I'd highly recommend a steel core lanyard.

Prissic cord needs to be smaller diameter than climbing line.

But a copy of Tree Climber's Companion.

Buy ANSI Z133

Find somebody to teach you.

Learn low and slow!!!

Always tie in twice before making any cut.
