Connecting climbing lines together for life support, using the Zeppelin, Fisherman's or Flat Overhand bend.

Is that a question with poor punctuation? Or perhaps it is a tag line for a photo that didn't come through.

I have done it using Fisherman knots. I was training a buddy and wanted to set up his climbing rope in a manner which would allow me to lower him to the ground, but I needed additional length ... hence connecting two together. Turned out I didn't need to belay him, but it was good to know I could.
