Finally got the 8 pin rim vids posted. The 7 pin vids are the same ones from my other thread. We were cutting the same wood. That 441 really is a sweet saw. Gotta get me one of them! :) Dan is doing all the cutting in the vids.

Enjoy. :D

I ran all three saws with the 8 pin before the videos. You can really lean on all saws pretty dang hard even with the 8 pin. I'm still really impressed with the 7900 and 681. The difference in torque is much more noticeable with the 8 pin - the 7900 really has a lot more ass behind it. The 681 has a butt load of torque too, but it is easier to slow down than the 79'er.

And Dan's 441 is just out of this world when it comes to speed. It's faster than both saws that are each 10cc's bigger. I can't wait for a 90cc strato! :D

The 7900 is Sling'r Ported. The 681 is Snellerized with an unlimited coil. The 441 is Snellerized.

The 7900 and 681 are running 050, 3/8" full chizzy Woodland Pro chain. The 441 is running 050, 3/8" full chizzy Woodland Pro chain.

They're all work saws wearing 24" bars.

Maybe I should post this link for reference:

Nice, the 441 is really impressive to cut right with those other two with the cc advantage they have. Now all you guys need is a 576xp to compare with them.

i believe my 6400 came with a 7 pin stock. when that wears out i'm gonna try an 8. if i'm not mistaken the 8 will give more chain speed but less torque correct?

Thanks, but you didn't say if the chain you used was the same one on all saws.....:)

Yes - just try it if the bar is short (less than 20") - rims are cheap! :)

The clock tells a slightly different story. I don't have a stop watch here, ahemmm, but here's what I got just watching the seconds in the video.

7900/7 - 11, 12sec
7900/8- 13, 14

681/7 - 10, 8, 10
681/8 - 12, 13

441/7 - 11, 8
441/8 - 11, 11

I'm surprised to see all three saws cutting faster times with a 7-pin rim.

The fastest configuration appears to be the 681 7-pin.

The 441 appears stronger with the 8-pin that either of the other two. That's also interesting considering it's the smallest saw. It feels that way in real life too!

It's rather surprising to me as well. I woner why the saws cut faster with the 7 pin. The 7 pin cuts were on a 40º day and the sap wasn't frozen. The 8 pin cuts were done in 10º and the sap was literally frozen solid.

That and the 8 pin cuts have a few good knots to cut through. It would be nice to do a more consistent comparison.

And yeah, the 441 is insane. It foreshadows a good future for strato saws. Imagine what numbers a ported 90cc strato saw might bring.

first you cant compare cut time on a 40 degree day and a 10 degree day. second, we have no baseline as to what a stock saw would cut.

im not one bit suprised to see a 7 pin come out ahead.

Yup, we got something to look at that is approximately close, but frozen wood is harder to cut. The cuts times cannot be directly compared. Suggests, though, that the 8 pin will cut fine above freezing weather.

I am happy with an 8 pin on my saw now, but it didn't last more than 5 minutes of cutting when the saw was stock. Pulled that sucker off and went back to the 7 pin.

Glad to see the 441 keeping up with those 80 cc saws.

It really does say a lot about strato saws. One of these years (when all that's available are strato models) the racing is gonna be split into 2 groups - strato and non strato. They're just that different once ported that you won't be able to compare the two kinds of saws.
