Here's my history on this topic. I have lent out two saws: one in 1976 and one in 2016. (1) The Poulan in 1976 came back with no compression, straight gassed. Dealer wanted more to fix it than I paid for it. (2) The Stihl 046 in 2016 was stolen by the borrower who left town with it and never returned it.

Bottom line: If you lend a saw out always assume that it may never be the same or it may never reappear.

I'm 60 years old and bought my first saw in 1986. So far I have never loaned a saw out. My son in law has a small stihl and he has asked to borrow a bigger saw with a 20" bar to cut up some trees they had taken down in their yard. I really don't want to but I hate to tell him no. I'm going to let him borrow the Husqvarna 365 clone that I built from a parts kit. It runs really good and I hope it comes back in the same condition. I'm going to send my fuel mix with it.

MS261 C-M production date 1/22 came in as a no start. Long story short someone ran it on used motor oil and gasoline, smoked the top end.

Bologna of the highest order. Hope they make right with you on it. Can't imagine running used drain oil as two stroke mix, that's one I haven't heard of. In a case of legitimate emergency and that's all I had on hand, I'd give it a shot.

These are the loaner saws I keep on hand:

Remember, when you tell someone you don't loan out your saws, them getting pissy about it is confirming that you made the right choice. Anyone truly competent to run a saw will have their own saw, or at least understand and accept why you don't loan yours out.

Saw belongs to a customer, I know better. Wherever my saws go I go no exceptions. Sadly I see this kind of thing quite often.

Remember back in the 1960s and before, when non-detergent 20W motor oil was mixed at 20:1?

You might get a saw to last a little bit with drain mixed at that ratio.

I hardly have any friends with enough brains or balls to even use a gas saw anymore.
