I've got a consultation/potential bid to give tomorrow for a guy concerned about the roots of his tree (he doesn't know the species) growing under his driveway and surface roots growing into the neighbor's flower bed.
I need some insight into the effects of tree roots growing under concrete surfaces (driveways, foundations, etc.). I know large roots near the surface can displace structures as they grow, but how much effect do normal root systems have on structural stability?
And what is the best way to deal with a neighbor who doesn't want roots encroaching on his property, without compromising the health of the tree?
I haven't seen the situation yet, so if I'm still stumped as to the best solution I'll post pictures. But a few helpful ideas going into it would be much appreciated.
