I have a 25-30 foot evergreen tree. It looks just like a christmas tree, so I think it is a Douglas Fir.
I do not want it to grow any taller. A couple of more feet and it will be into the branches of a Catalpa tree.
Can I chop the top off this tree without damaging it? Will it lose its beautiful xmas tree shape?

Thanks,

I wish I had a camera last week. I saw a spruce that had been topped several years ago.

Picture each of the side limbs below the cut putting out new growth that will try to becoem the new dominant stem.

Maybe call and arborist to prune the Catalpa away from the evergreen?

We had a Colorado spruce 'Silver Dream' (?) a few years ago that had to be moved for foundation work. it was not practical to transplant so we had the best Christmas tree ever that year.
