Fake Firewood

Anyone tried this compressed firewood they're selling.. My father was to lazy to get his wood this spring now he can't find any. He's heading out to buy a couple of cord of this compressed stuff.. 1 pallet is supposed to be close to the BTU's of 1 cord of hardwood.

I guess we'll wait and see..

it's $190 a pallet, which is supposed to be equal the BTU of a cord.. Burns fast but burns really hot I guess.. I'll be sticking with my real wood me thinks

The ones I've seen were called bio bricks and they cost a little more.

Well he's back.. he got 30 bags of bricks, cost $100 plus tax.. it's
s from a local place that makes moldings. I guess you can go anytime and buy whatever you need because they make them year round. Nice to not have to split and stack.. only time will tell!

True Biobricks are made from 100% wood. No binders. They use high pressure and compress sawdust into the bricks. Supposedly they do burn well, but I personally have never used any.

Kinda on topic has anyone seen or used the fire logs they sell at the big dep stores. Made from used Coffee grounds? I bet they smell good but at $4.00 a log.

They are comparing their biobricks BTU's to yellow pine. or Cottonwood/Poplar. There was a thread not long ago ob Pellet backets used for burning wood pellets in a wood stove. they work best if the fire is lit on the top instead of the bottom.

Oh Man ! I stopped drinking coffee a couple of years ago and had forgotten how good roasted grounds in the fire were like.

I'm sort of partial to the smell of onion skins in the fire.

Oh great ! now I'm hungry again !

If those artificial logs burn better than I can burn using oak, ash, locust, elm, or mulberry, I may be interested. If not, then I'm out of here.

One thing you could save a lot of space, If one pallet is supposed to be close to the BTU's of 1 cord of hardwood. hmmmm? opcorn:

Funny I just sat down open up this thread on opened up my X-large coffee!

couldn't live without coffee.. Dad tried them last night. said they worked pretty good, had his stove closed almost all the way and still threw tons of heat. went through 8 bricks from 6pm till 6 am.

Don't think they'd work well in my setup, he uses a new air tight insert I have an old stove can't control the air aswell as he can.
