What's your favorite knot? I think mine has to be the alpine butterfly or the bowline.

Most useful knot, definitely running bowline... my favourite...??...? hmmm hafta say a proper bowline on a bight, not a double bowline tied with the tail hanging out. BOAB has got to be the best knot to watch a rookie try to untie, usually I wait to tell them how after they've pulled 100ft of rope through getting it apart. They usually get it the next time:jester:.

Running bowline on a bite

I've sometimes tied a running bowline on a bite...it works, but what a thick mass of rope to handle. I tied it when yarding a trailer full of brush out at the dump, to a steel loop on concrete jersey barrier.
What do you think, neccesary or not? I was worried that a standard bowline on a bite will tighten up too much to untie when loaded with a truck.
