no jigs for me so far, although i have considered it.

i seem to do well enough free hand...

one thing i wanted to mention was the smooth feel
once a cutter is sharp (all depends on pressure applied
and "age" of file, of course).

also, i file into the tooth (toward the saw). works for me
although i believe the other direction is the preferred way?

Yep the raker guide does not want to sit on there very well, But i always have the powerhead to the left side and file ALL my rakers from one side only.
Im right handed so i hold the guide with my left and file with the right.
My hands hurt doing the rakers but are fine with sharpening.
The rakers are hard work IMO.

Stick at it!

Glad to see I'm not the only one having problems with the raker guide. Thanks for the tip.

I think the Carlton File-o-Plate available from Bailey's is a great tool to maintain and file your chain by. Really helped me. Doesn't work on some safety chains tho.

Virgin sharpener also, have a Husky 61 and even when I bought a new(thanks mum)450e,Husky dealer "advised"me not to buy a guide for sharpening, just to stick to 30 degrees free hand,trying....seems too cut fast and had for about 4 cuts..:(
