I know it's not a chain saw but if it is in these saws, it's just a matter of time. Recently got to do a top end on a TS500i Stihl. Piston wore out, ring rotated and hung in a transfer, shot in no time.

So the pictures you all want...

Stihl tells you NOT to clean the filter or open it unless you are ready to service the unit. #1 killer of these is people that want to blow the filter out. Ruins the filter and then the saw...

There is video. It started first pull and dropped right to a nice idle. It's expensive technology and I don't like that Stihl doesn't like to share any info but I can say, it's impressive and it runs dang good. From an owner stand point for a machine with multiple users in a wide range of temperature.. it's the way to go.

Video probably won't get loaded until Sunday as I am leaving to go out of town in 10 minutes. Just wanted to share more than Auto-Tune / M-tronic is out. When will we see this in the world of wood?

This morning at 28* I primed it twice and it fired first pull so in my opinion, no. Much less aggravation that the 400's and 420's I'm used to.

we had a ts460 that was hard to start. that ts500i starts great it feels lot lighter then the 460 and the the throtle responce is a lot better. stihl came out with another fuel injected cutoff saw ts480i.

The 480i is the same saw, just holds a 12" blade vs the 14". I think the 460 was a bigger saw with more displacement than the 420 and 500.

I don't see what advantage this would have over AutoTune or M-Tronic. It is far more complicated. Also, I don't think it addresses scavenging losses, unless the fuel pulse can be timed that accurately to enter the combustion chamber at the right time from down in the case.

Cool pictures though.

Why not? That should be really easy. Just add on a tachometer couple it with the fuel injection and voila finished.

I hope folks are working on direct (into the chamber) injection for portable engines. (I understand that car mfgs are working on direct-injected 2-strokes for car engines.) Then the question is where and how to dispense oil.

The ficht was introduced in '97, E-TEC(brp, NOT HUSQY) in '08. Electrically fired direct fuel injection, with electric oil injection. Awesome machines, but perhaps too clunky for chasing that last .2lb weight reduction. I think the M-Tronic, stratified charge strategy is probably best for light weight hand held equipment.
