I needed a set of gaff guards and used a piece of automotive heater hose about 1/2"ID cut to 3" in length.
Used a rivet to close the other end, works good.
 
I've done that too. But I lose the black hose within a day or two. If you ever come across a piece of old air hose (red, blue or yellow), that works very well also. And they are easy to spot WHEN you drop them. :p I don't rivet them, just trim them at an angle to protect the point.

I don`t see them available for tree gaffs.

The first thing I did with the guards I made was paint them with fluorescent orange locate paint.
They push on tight and seem secure but if they get sloppy I`ll put a keeper strap on them.
