I Live in Massachusetts and have several trees (Japanesse Maple, Lilacs etc...) with some sort of bushy growth on the bark of them which is blue to green in color. Can anyone tell me what this is and if it is harmfull to the trees and if their is a treatment for this?

Is it a moss? How thick is this? I would guess its fairly wet and shady in this area. Let us know.
