Hello,
Can anyone help identify what these are? I have about a dozen or so dead Red Oaks on my property and have found these and some smaller sized grubs in the wood. The bark on several is loaded with similiar though smaller grubs.
Thanks in advance.
Joe

I was going to ask the same question sometime. But now you have brought it up with a good picture, I find the same ones in rotting stumps also. They tend to be quite large, (the size of your thumb). I tried to find out what they metamorphed into by picking up a couple of them and kept them in a plastic bag through most of the winter. They just kept eating the stump material and growing, and this was over a several month period. I gave up and threw them away. Someone here must know what they are.
