great compression.

Lee- that's a nice one. I remember the Stick Shift Homelite was one of the very few saws going for top dollar
in the earliest days of Ebay. In fact, one of the very first ones I saw on there was NOS in the box. It got over
$2500. Yours is a sweetie though for a used one.

Every saw you post is one I don't see every day. Lol
That must be a gear drive with different gearing on the fly.
Preety cool, never seen that saw before.

Gives you to different gear ratios. Not sure of ratios.
I think for some reson one might be like direct drive
and then another like 2. something. I have to investigate
it more.

That's kinda what I thought/heard too. Real nice find.

Beautiful saw Lee - congratulations.

The gear ratios for the 770GS are as follows:

770 -GS1: 2.84: 1 and 1.4: 1
770 -GS2: 3.57: 1 and 1.4: 1

Chain speed under load: 1.4 ratio = 2500ft / min, 2.84 ratio = 1232ft / min, and 3.57 ratio = 981 ft / min.

Amazing condition for a vintage machine - well done.

Chris.
