homelite 1050

I've been searching for specs on this saw and found this forum - it's great reading all the posts. Just wondered if anyone knows details about the engine displacement, HP, etc., or where I can find this info. My father bought this saw some 20 years ago and it runs great, but it can just about take your arm off when starting it - like timing might be over advanced. I don't believe there is a compression release, so this may be normal. Someone had replaced the points with an electronic pickup that sits outside the flywheel and I can't see how you would adjust timing. Anyone know where I can get original points and condenser? Would like to go back to factory build, but if these were normally that hard to pull, I'll leave it alone and use two hands.

great machine.i've run a 5 footer with an 8 pin.lots of power.they are 100cc 4 reed motors.not sure about hp.a super 1050 should turn 10500 no load maybe a little more.check out chainsaw collectors corner for more. air gap should still be .15. if it is fixed and runs good don't mess with it.

Buzz i have a S. 1050 A. Still has the points. It does not pull easy. You have to pull it like you mean it or don't bother trying. Don't think it will pull easier if you switch back to the old point system.

changed my s 2000 to electronic it pulls alot easier decomp valve does not work on my saw.

The saw eats up anything in its path, so I agree, I think it's best to leave well enough alone - and eat my wheaties! Probably should use premium fuel too. Thanks to all for the quick responses and thanks for this great site. Its an absolute wealth of information. Looking forward to when I can contribute and help someone out.

Yes I would use premium fuel. I tried straight av gas (100LL) in one of my old 1020 one day. Thing ran like a top. I didn't even play with the carb screws etiher. At least run 92 or 93 octane.

Hello, I Don't think the 1050 runs 10,500 RPM no load. Something tells me 7,500 no load and 6,000 in a cut. Homelite 650/750's were piston ported and ran 12,500 RPM no load. Just a thought. Jonathan

Well, I just couldn't help myself. Had to prove the hard pull was due to timing over-advance. I finally found points and condenser and installed them - a world of difference. Starts and runs like a Homelite should, hot or cold. I don't see any loss of power. Now to get on with the restoration!
