Just got done today I'm fixing to remount it back on my bicycle and test drive it let me know what you think. I found my not wanting to fire up problem was a busted piston ring so for those who have running and shutoff problems check the rings for cracks lost compression is a failure to start and not wanting to run. Enjoy

why only two transfers and not all four? be real curious to see yer polishing gear
image.jpgI use a Foredom pedal controlled variable speed flex shaft to power these tools, the three on the left are felt, two on the right are Cratex, along with Maas polishing creme:)
I did the front two transfers, just not in the pic, I'll get one for you.
I like to start on back and leave them bigger than front.

Quick question for the Homelite wizards, can I put a piston and cylinder from an xl-925 onto my xl-944 vi ? The 925 is a runner, but unfortunately that's about all its got going for it. It would nickel and dime me to death if I wanted to make it presentable. However my xl944 looks great, just no compression.

I should bolt right up. I put an old 902AM cylinder on a 922 and everything was the same except the older cylinder had 12-24 muffler bolts and the 922 had 1/4-20's

All that series 77 cc or 82 cc had the same stroke, different bore. I believe the 944 cylinder has a decomp and the 925 does not.

Some of the pistons had spacer washers on the wrist pin inside the piston. I think that was a piston difference rather than the rod so you should be able to use the 944 rod if you don't want to change the rods out.

Not sure, honestly my benches are all full with other projects right now and I haven't had time to tear it apart yet. I was considering selling the 925 until I realized that I might be able to use those parts. I'll try and keep you guys updated with progress.

Actually, both rod and piston are different. The washers control lateral play. Early style rods had a fiber bushing on the crank side of the rod. Lots of lateral slop on the top side at the wrist pin. Somewhere along the line, the engineers decided it would work better for the lateral play to be controlled on the top-side. So, the newer rods did away with the fiber on the lower side, and the washers were added at the top. The inside piston boss was machines for the proper clearance with the new washers, so a new piston and rod combo resulted. You could use a new style piston with an old style rod, but you couldn't use a new style rod with the old piston... top side clearance wouldn't jive. Also, those special washers aren't that easy to find.

I have one new 28" bar for the XL- series. It is SP28348-1. This is a sprocket nose Homelite bar. It is better than the regular sprocket nose. It is a one piece bar with a sprcket noese that can be replaced It has the regular XL mount.. Price is $70.00 plus shipping. That is the price on the last Homelite price list.
