I know this has been covered, but I figured I could post a quick thread on how I make a base gasket. I will do this when I'm in a pinch, or want a different thickness than OEM. Yes, sealant can be used, but I like paper gaskets for the most part.
Step 1. I take a light oil (I like Marvel) and thinly coat the cylinder base.
Step 2. I place the base of the cylinder firmly on the gasket material. Here you can see the oil transfer, which is easy to see and cut out. This piece was scrap I was using for an example. (I had already made my gasket at this point).
Step 3. I cut the outside perimeter of the gasket with a pair of scissors, and the inside with an exacto knife. I have a hole punch for the bolt holes.
Here is the finished gasket. I used a taco box, in hopes that the saw becomes spicier.
Hope this thread can help a new face or two around here. If not, enjoy the pitchers of my spicy taco gasket anyway!
Sincerely, Mornin' Wood Saw Werks
