This 257 came to me as pictured. No top cover.

I sent the SN to Husky, and they said,Husky 257 serial number.jpgIMG_20230118_113900.jpg if it was a black cover, it was made in 1985. And, some other-unspecified date, if it was orange cover.

There were two different 257s?

Think mine was orange?

Not sure who you got in contact with, but they clearly were mistaken.that is a 1995, week 32 built saw, and AFAIK 257's were orange top only, they were marketed as a Non XP Pro Saw, never as farm/ranch, and I don't believe it came about until after the grey top era was over anyhow.

I don't think Husky customer service have access to such intel.

I also asked them about a 36, I own. They said it's either 1972 or 1982 saw.

My 97 has an orange top, and the year of manufacture is also stamped on the serial number card
