Why do you think the outside of the muffler was wet with fuel?
I have verified the hose placement.

Working on it again today, after adjusting L & T out to 2.5 turns, it would run st high idle for a bit, 40 sec.,
And as soon as I touched the trigger it died.

I have verified the hose placement.
The carb has to meter fuel correctly. It can't do that with an internal leak. Pressurize the fuel inlet on the carb and look for leaks. A good carb should hold 7-10psi indefinitely! Find and fix any leaks.
