i have a beautiful 181se im trying to get running good, i noticed when replacing the fuel line that the plastic inlet on the carburetor could be moved up and down, is this common or is something loose? It does have a weird run condition and the saw doesnt look like it was used enough to have a leaking seal unless it was just faulty.

Any help would be appreciated!

By the looks of the saw it is probably all worn out PM me and I will dispose of it. If you are talking about the fuel inlet, the plastic part should rotate some don't as the plastic ages. There is a metal nipple that is pressed into the carb body and the plastic part fits over it. You can get the whole assembly in a metal one piece version, no plastic as the plasic is usually the weak point. I put one on 2100 that had the same issues. You can pressure test it. If you don't have the tools just dunk it in water with a fuel line attached and blow into into the line. That's a good looking saw for sure

Talk to me about this 346..... But id be willing to bet if the inlet moves like im picturing in my mind i bet it leaks. You can replace the inlet if you choose to or replace it with a 288 carb from hl supply as i saw they were tillys on sale cheap a couple days ago.

288 carb. won't work on 181. Throttle rods are different. You can put a 288 tank/handle on it.
Shep
A 288 carb will work on a 181. All you have to change is the throttle trigger in the rear handle, not the whole tank. The 181 has a wire linkage and the 281/288 has a "roller" sort of linkage.

Inlet looked metal on this one. You talking right side where fuel line goes to carb?

If plastic I have had probs with those if loose and or cracked.

Testing pic before shipping to new owner. Sold runner for $145 plus shipping.

Husqvarna 503534001 (replaces 501238801)

NIPPLE $10.33 at partstree but anyone that sells husqvarna can get it. I bought mine from Baileys.

Carb from 281 /288 will work on 181 as long as throttle shaft is changed out for older style linkage. I think I have some throttle surplus shafts. also of note is that some of the early 181 carburetors were not governed (Tillotson HS 216 A or B)
