When was the 353 last produced?
The reason I ask is I was walking thru a store yesterday and they had a brand new 353 on display. I should have checked the DOM on the saw, but was in a hurry.

they also had a 576xp and a Stihl 461 sitting on the shelves.

I believe they were discontinued about the same time the 545 and 550 were introduced which was around 2011-2012.

From what I gathered, it looks like 2001 was the first year of 353 production and 2011 was the last year. The "brand new" one you saw is probably a reconditioned shelf queen. I like mine also. I call it my "go to" saw most of the time.

353s are still being produced. @Robin Wood can get you one.

I sort of remember them being ’re-introduced’ for a while, with a purge bulb carburetor. Don’t remember the dates.

It was definitely NOS, not used or reconditioned. Anyone want me to pick it up for them. I think list price was $450 ish but would need to recheck.

One of my late friends told me before he passed away that he dropped $500 on his in 2005. His 353 had a 20" bar, and I always tought he was straining it a little. An 18" bar seems ideal. The saw pulled in only $60 at his estate auction in 2019 that I did not attend.

I think I paid $350 for mine in that same time frame. Also came with a 20" bar. I bought a 16" bar for it and run both!

I picked up a clean one last spring for zip, put an aftermarket piston/cylinder on it and sold it for $275.....wish I had played with it in wood first.

I inherited my dad's 353 and it is hand's down my go to saw. Good power and not heavy.
