When you purchase a brand new carburetor for a 550xp is comes programmed. Does anyone know if its the same when you buy a new ignition coil? can you just install a new coil and go, or will it need set up first

It doesn't come programmed.
You will need to go to the dealer and have it programmed for your saw - ignition coil.
Or you can just swap the module and put the one from the carb that is installed on the saw.

I meant to say when you buy a new carburetor for 550xp it comes unprogrammed. Anyhow, I have a new ignition coil on the way, looks like ill be making a trip to one of the local dealers, hopefully they can figure out how to do it
actually if the coils have the same numbers on them (not on the bag, or on the package) there is no need (Software is in the carburettors chip, the black gizmo screwed on side of carb). I have swapped the coils around on my own saw, to test the interchangeability. But i highly recommend to get the new programming/software for such swap (because only god knows what changes have been made inside the ignition coil, trough years of manufacturing and the Revision letters (Rev. ABCDEFG... ))
