Hello all,
Long time lurker, new poster! I am looking for the side cover and complete brake assembly with metal handle for a vintage (1983) Husqvarna Rancher 61. Mine has the white top. I think there are some other models that might be compatible? Anyhow if there is anyone out there who would like to part with one or knows of a source I would sure appreciate a reply. Thank you in advance. Brett

Thank you, but I need the metal one. I bought a new replacement for a 61, (not Rancher) and the plastic handle will not clear the carrying handle when trying to release the brake.

Is your saw a full wrap? Either way, putting a 281/8 or 394/5 flag on your plastic-handled cover will give you the required clearance. I bought 2 from this guy when I converted two 272s (high displacement 61’s) to full wrap models. https://www.ebay.com/itm/503760801-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I bought a 1993 61 with a full wrap to replace my original Rancher 61 which was getting a little long in the tooth. The 61 did not come with any of the inside brake parts so bought a new side cover with complete brake assembly and it does not have enough clearance between the brake handle and wrap to release the brake once it's set. So I took the old style cover and handle off of my old Rancher 61 and installed it and it works just fine. I then tried to install the new cover on the old saw and even though it does not have a full wrap there is not enough clearance to install. So the easiest fix for me is to simply find another old style with metal handle to put back on my Rancher. A little long winded but now you see my dilemma. Any help out here folks? Any and all is surely appreciated.

Again, if the brake flag in the link is installed on the plastic-flagged cover it will enable that cover to fit either saw, as shown below. Finding a metal flagged cover will be harder and more expensive than installing the other flag. If you still don't understand I'll get a few more pictures illustrating what I'm talking about tomorrow night.
Quick fyi, if you put a full wrap on your 272 you’ll need a 281/394 brake flag to clear the wrap, as shown in the pics below.

The first picture shows how much clearance the usual 61/272 half wrap brake flag has on a full wrap saw. The second picture shows how much clearance you get by installing the 281/394 brake flag I posted the ebay link to.

Nice to know this my 66 with 272 full wrap has very little clearance for the chain brake. I think il just ordered a 281 flag for mine.

Do you know where to get a full wrap handle for a 61?

I found the right side cover and complete brake assembly with the metal handle at a local chainsaw repair shop for $50! Brought it home, installed it and back in business. Thank you for your responses and information.
