I'm new to the AS site and have learned more in the last 3 to 4 months from this site than I have learned in a while. Great site:cheers: IM wandering whats the difference in a tie rod cylinder and a welded tee cylinder, and is one better than the other for a log splitter I'm going to start building. Thanks in advance:givebeer:

A tie-rod cylinder has the end caps held in place with 4 high strength steel rods. The welded cylinder has the back end welded shut and the front, rod end, closed by various removable means.

Welded cylinders are more compact, while the tie-rod cylinder seem simpler to manufacture. Both often have the same pressure rating.

Tie-rod cylinders are usually readily available at farm supply stores. The rod shaft dia. will affect the price. A 1 3/4" dia. shaft should be considered minimum.

another consideration is how you intend to mount the cylinder to your beam.

that rear mount is important.
