The seller is right on this picture, I have one myself. Stihl took the 029 and re branded it the MS 290, basically they moved the zero from the front of the numbers to the back but they are just the newer version of the same saw.

Tooless black and white caps = MS290.....Older style black screw on caps = 029

With no "029" badge on top, Im guessing 290 because the 290 badge is on the starter cover, not on the top cover.

An 029:

Hmmmmmm......

The saw in the lower pic surely isn't an 029 family one _ so how is that pic relevant??????????

I was thinking the same thing.... You cannot compare those two handles. For starters... Orange handles= homeowner...White handles= Pro. 029 and MS290 handles are prolly identical.

Yep, never owned one but I always thought that the 029 was one of the orange handle jobs. I always stay away from anything with an orange or black handle (cept the 020)

That said, I googled images and found pictures of both???? Although I would say that saws with orange handles seemed to come up mostly.

Troll go sit in the corner.........:buttkick: :buttkick:

LOL - I will, I have no relationship to those POS saws anyway, except picking up a MS390 that was on sale for less than a 250 usually is - and quickly setting it down again.

If it looks and feels like POS, it usually is........
