While in Tuscany this past summer I noticed some smallish oaks with leaves shaped much like the live oaks here in Los Angeles only with smaller, more heavily lobed leaves and wondered what type of oak and if they are deciduous.

Take a leaf and Twig sample to either a reputable Garden Center or to your local County Cooperative Extension Service office. I'm sure you will find your answer.
