So this is all purely by dumb luck. Back in mid 2001, I had to remove a plum tree from my front yard that was pretty well dead. I picked up a 2 inch caliper Bald Cypress from Home Depot and put it in the hole that the plum tree came out of, and wasn't even that particular with planting it.

It is now 2020, and the circumference of the tree is 84 inches, and it is 55 feet tall. It looks like a darn red wood tree or something. Neighbors ask me what it is all of the time. We have Bald Cypresses in Amarillo, but nothing that is this large.

I did find out one little nugget: Last year, we had to have a sprinkler replaced, and the repairman said that there had been a line leak very close to the tree for several years, and water was pretty much gushing under the ground. I'm guessing the Bald Cypress drank it all! :baba:
