would those be used for 1/2 or 9/16 chain? never seen that size offered except in flat

McMaster-Carr shows a 9/32" round files in 2 finishes (Coarse and fine) but they are rat tail files with
some taper and the drawing shows them to be 0.275" diameter , slightly smaller than 9/32" .
Might be worth a try if you can't find anything else .

And I found a 8mm file thats slightly larger than 9/32 sold on ebay, I can send the link if you want it
Try looking on MSC's website. They may have something from Pferd. Pferd files have out-performed every other brand I have tried.
Thanks but I have found 5/16" files which is the same as 8mm. Little too large for Oregon #6 chain.
I don't believe 9/32 is made anymore. I have looked quite a bit.

22970 is what I found for a Homelite number. I have not found any others yet.

Can we ask for chain size? For 3/8LP and .325 pit chains, use 4.0mm (5/32”) file. For 3/8 pitch chain, use a 4.8mm (3/16”) file. For the 404 pitch chain, the recommended is 5.5mm (7/32”) file.

He's looking for files for 9/16 chain, Oregon #4, I believe, from the 1950s.
Round saw chain files in this size are hard to find because the chain and saws to pull it haven't been made since the 60s probably.
Also, most 3/8 chain I've encountered used the same 7/32 files as 404 with the exception of Stihl 3/8 using 13/64.
